Sample Lesson Plan and Student Artwork

This is a brief summary of a lesson plan with sample student work (2025), where students learned art history, media, styles and processes, and produced beautiful work that was relevant to them and led them to appreciate their local environments.

The art history component exposed students to the work of Louis Comfort Tiffany and stained glass as his art medium. Students then explored stained glass and how color and light are the main elements used to convey imagery. They then learned about their local environment by seeing pictures of the California Super Bloom, an annual event where the dry deserts and hills turn into fields of color, which comes from a variety of native flowers. Students learned how to draw flowers and cacti from observation, and how to create the illusion of space to create a landscape with a fore-, middle and background. Lastly, they learned art techniques such as drawing designs with glue, working with color pastels, and the elements of color theory through the application of cool, warm, and analogous colors.
